Letter
Hey guys. I live in Knoxville, TN and have been listening to your show for a while and wanted to share this letter to the editor I found on our local paper's website. I'll preface this letter by saying the make-up of these letters is typically very right-wing people attempting to debunk global warming, so to see a letter like this made me grin.
Love the show,
Ryan.
Put Sponsor Decals on Lawmakers Like NASCAR
What a stunning Supreme Court decision. No more restraints on corporate influence money.
I offer a counter plan.
Let’s follow the pattern of our beloved NASCAR teams.
Let us mandate that our august body of 535 elected souls, which we call Congress, display their sponsors upon their person on every occasion in public or through any medium.
The larger the dollar amount, the larger the patch.
This way, when Sen. Chris Dodd states, “billion dollar bonuses for AIG execs are in the best interest of America” or when Sen. Mitch McConnell boasts that, “mountaintop removal (mining) is good for America,” we can pan back, investigate the logos and know that, “the preceding has been a paid political announcement,” is as close to the truth as we’ll be allowed.

Donating and why
I just signed up to donate. I've been meaning to because I love the show and have literally listened to every episode. The real deal-maker for me was the special offer of telling us why Todd left. I google it almost every time I listen to the show. Did he poop in your sink? I HAVE TO KNOW!! PLEASSSSEE!!

ALL of your podcasts are ALWAYS great!
What are people's problems?
Miraculously, you produce 2 separate shows,
ALMOST every week, PRACTICALLY for free,
BUT try to make a living a little, or,
perhaps, some tiny increment of Time …
just for yourselves … !?!
Sheesh! You slave over a hot soundboard,
pouring your very souls out
into the ether (the unforgiving ether !)
until the microphones are left steaming …
…and this is the thanks you get ?!?
A long-time C&EE podcastee,
I only just started downloading the radio show
a week or two before you had to double up on it.
Did I complain? NO!
I understood the circumstances.
And I paid for that podcast!
I listened to a couple of things twice
and I skipped the rest. BFD!
Don't let a few detractors get under your skin.
As long as one of the podcasts is up, and kicking,
who do they think they are? The pikers!
Just keep doing what you two do,
just the way you two do it!
& Long may you wave!

Hey how come all the emails you read are positive?
Why don’t you read any about how you all are a bunch of gay, liberal, dick-faced, dick heads, who eat bags of dicks for breakfast!
Hope the tone of my overly sarcastic email was abundantly clear (and if it wasn’t please re-read the sentence you just read.)
I love the show guys, especially without that Todd fag! (Again, sarcasm; isn’t it awesome via email?!?)
But seriously, for the sake of the retards who might not understand (Matthew) I was just kidding about you being dick-headed-dick-faces, I truly enjoy the show and whenever I listen it makes me feel good.
Best of continued success in life and all things,

Litigation
Aren't you guys worried about getting sued by Weezer for using their song now that you're taking money for this show? I would be. Or do you have permission?
I don't speak on behalf of
I don't speak on behalf of the show, but I think the most appropriate answers would generally be (in order):
1: Income or not, infringement is infringement. But infringement is not theft. And the show is in no way distributing the full track, which is usually what causes legal troubles. Many bars play music (which counts as distribution/live performance) but rarely pay an actual license fee to ASCAP/BMI
2: I believe that the use of the song is for critical purpose and commentary, which is covered under fair use.
Those being said, if anyone would like to submit their version of any new theme song, I'm sure we would all really enjoy it.
Paypal and I do NOT get along. Take a check/money order?
Love the podcast. I'd like to support it. (Also glad to hear you adopt the Dan Carlin buck-a-show structure. Another of my favorites.) I owe you guys for some content that was greatly enjoyed. Unfortunately, Paypal and I had a fallout a while back and I am now on their shit list. Is there an address that I could send a Money Order?

Hi Joe,
I've sent you an email that might point things in the right direction.

Hello friends,
I would like to start by saying I am much more important than these other "norms" that waste their time commenting on websites. For I, as I mentioned before ,am a local business owner. I am a 28 year old hardwood floor and tile contractor in Boise Idaho! Or I am just another self employed asshole that enjoys comedy and holds your podcast very close to my heart. I will not comment about Todd, except that I love him like he is my big baby adult nephew, and it's too bad. I was floating a shower pan today and lost my shit when P.F.T. replied "not that I know of " when asked about dog ownership. Just a small example of his genius. Jimmy, you are hilarious and stef, Jesus Christ! Jimmy better treat you like that really fluffy white cat in those cat food commercials, ONLY THE BEST! Jimmy, it's too bad I never saw you when I lived in temperate Camarillo, CA. Boise is awesome, filled with lily livered lefties. If it would be profitable for you PLEASE come and do a show. I will help with advertising and it would be my pleasure to treat you and hopefully Stef to a wonderful evening in "the city of trees" voted one of the best places to live in one of those men's health magazines. Anyway, hopefully this will be read by you and not that "genius" or Paul Bartunik. Bartunik! really? have a more prideful last name jerk! If you could wink during your next podcast to let me know you read this that would be awesome Thank you Jimmy and Stef, and I guess Matthew (stay in the fucking booth!) You all are about to be $20 richer!
In Praise of Passion
Greetings from rainlashed windswept Southwest Ireland. I have been listening to the podcast from the very beginning and absoloutley love it. It has been terrific to hear the voice of a different America to the mainstream we normally get fed here in Europe.
An Intelligent well informed but most of all a passionate voice. It's great to hear people who actually give a shit and want to make things better. Love the synergy between the four of you. Please don't ever get too slick or professional. Part of the attraction of the show is that you can almost see it forming and taking shape as it is performed. I love the shambolic nature. The best show on any medium at the moment. Makes me angry and can have me sick with laughter in the space of a minute. Keep On Keeping On.
By the way if you think you have dodgy and corrupt politicians over there. They are nothing to what we have to put up with in our little Bannana Republic.

Positive criticism
This email is mainly for Mr. Glass. About a month ago I had sent a version of it to him via the email address I found on the web (toddglasscomedey@gmail I think). However, since then I learned that he actually gets his email from this address, so I want to resend the gist of the message.
I had the opportunity to see David Cross on tour (Oct 10th in Morgantown WV) and I had looked forward excitedly to the day for over a month. I did not find out Mr. Glass would be opening for Mr. Cross until he announced himself and walked on stage. That just made the whole thing better. Mr. Glass is like whip cream on any dessert. If David Spade is a slice of pie or David Cross is a banana split, the only thing that makes them better is the whip cream. And I could only want more topping whenever possible.
Now for the criticism mentioned in the subject line. After having listed to the podcast (I was at #9 at that point), I was surprised at how structured Mr. Glass on stage. I think he would benefit a great deal if he could show more of his relaxed podcast persona on stage. I feel this is only more true having now heard more of the podcasts. Having said that, I do realize it may not be easy to do.
Secondarily, if Mr. Glass has friends or employees to process is email for him, then he should not have email address that are not checked. If the only way to contact him is via CaEE, then dump the gmail *or at least don’t list it on the web).
Hopefully this criticism is received as positively as I intend it.
for the 420 friendly comedians....
hey there Jimmy, Todd, and Steph:
Firstly, thanks for the excellent podcast. Caught wind of you guys from a mention on WFMU's Best Show, as well as Patton Oswalt. I think you have one of the most honest shows out there, and it shows. Your discussions regarding politics, "conspiracy theories", and current events in general makes it so much more than just a comedy show, and i really appreciate that. Times likes these call for extra amounts of insight and humor, and You guys are all really delivering on that. Oh and i'm also originally from the western burbs of chicago (past cicreo, not as far as hinsdale) and appreciate stories from the old areas...i chuckled out loud when i heard you mention the Lyon's Pub.
However i'm writing on a Stoner-Crusade of sorts for Jimmy. I was catching up on Doug Stanhope's blog and found something every stoner would love, free swag. Apparently there is a vaporizer vendor out there who gives his/her wares out to comedians/musicians/etc.... Stanhoep wrtes about being contacted by them and recieving a state of the art toking device.
(fuck it, here it is in stanhopes words)

Like I've told you - a lot of people send me free shit and I love it, even when it's just shit. But sometimes it's really fucking cool.
Not long ago I get an email with the following...
"I work for the manufacturer of the Silver Surfer Vaporizer. I am writing to see if you would be interested in a free one? We don't advertise, instead we just give our vapes away to the comedians, artists, and musicians that we love and let them spread the word for us. So let me know if ur interested. Thanks for your time!"
As you know, I am not a weed-head. So when I read "vaporizer" - I assume it's some kind of humidifier or medical equipment. How the fuck should I know?
I write back like a smart-fuck...
"Are you fucking kidding me? I'd LOVE an SSV!
Send it in my Girlfriends name, as she is a sort of imbecile and I can yell at her for spending too much money on things.
Amy Bingaman 212 Van Dyke St Bisbee AZ 85603
I will yell about it from the rooftops when I figure out what it is!
Thanks!

I imagine the confusion on Bingo's squash when some vaporizing contraption or breathing machine shows up in her name. I never considered why someone would choose me to send commercial samples of such merchandise but I get a lot of emails. I try to make quick work of 'em.
I never again thought of Silver Surfer Vaporizers until Bingo called me in Ireland and told me that someone sent some outrageously high-dollar, hand-crafted, balls-out toking machine. It took me a second to put it together, realize what I retard dildo I am and explain to her where it came from.
This thing is amazing. My (OIL DIFFUSING) friends are all posturing to get it like it's an inheritance - since I don't (DIFFUSE OIL FOR AROMA-THERAPY PURPOSES ONLY). Fuck, it makes me want to start (VAPORIZING EUCALYPTUS OR JUNIPER BERRY.)
If you guys love hanging out doing aroma-therapy behind the Circle K and you're tired of firing up your Ylang Ylang out of a beat-out Coke can with keyholes puched in it - Grow Up and Get a Silver Surfer Vaporizer!
Check that shit out on their site to see what I'm talking about and spread the word!
If nowhere else - at least tell Rogan. He's certainly a man who likes his aromas to arrive first class like this. I'll figure out some kinda goof contest to get a proper home for this aroma-therapy machine amongst you animals soon.
Stay tuned.

Australian Health Insurance
I couldnlt find a contact email address, but thought this was a story Jimmy would be interested in.
I live in Australia and a few months ago, my dad had a massive heart attack. He almost died and needed a triple bypass. Mum recenlty revived the bill for $33,000. Their health insurance overed it all except for $90. Yes, that's Ninety Dollars, I didn't forget any zeroes.
So for $90, Dad recieved the ambulance to the first hospital and 1 week of care in a private room. He was then transferred to a hospita in a bigger city for another week where he got the triple bypass. He stayed in a private room there too once out of the ICU. He had consulatitaions with heart specialists, dieticians and physiotherapists, then left with a sack full of meds... All for $90.
They pay less than $200 a month for their helath insurance and that covers both of them. I admit I have no idea about the intracacies of the Asutralian health system, but it seems like it's working pretty well. Maybe Obama could have a look at it.
Do the hosts of this show
Do the hosts of this show visit this site? Seems like there's no interaction with fans. Maybe it's because Todds away. When's he back? (not that I expect an answer)
I don't wish for this to
I don't wish for this to sound mean at all, because I'm sure you're a reasonable person, but when leaving no contact information for someone to actually respond to you with you're only guaranteeing that they'll never be able to answer you in a satisfactory way. So I guess I'll have to do my best via the comments here. (not that I expect someone to read it) <-- see how annoying that can be?
The most recent version of Todd's schedule I've seen should be the one on his website. I don't know the date he'll be back on the show, but I'm guessing sooner rather than later.
The hosts haven't started using the blogs on this site yet, but Jimmy has left comments in response to other comments a few times. Stef emailed me last week to say she plans to start updating her blog area, but I'm still assuming they've got rich full lives that don't leave a lot of spare time to entertain us beyond the two-plus hours of podcast that they put out every week. I don't see any interaction on the other CaEE site at all, so if you feel there's more interaction going on with the hosts elsewhere that we're missing here, please let me know.
If you've absolutely got to have more interaction in a hurry, I highly suggest (this is a big hint) going to the Comedy and Everything Else discussion forum at A Special Thing, which has been linked from the homepage of this site since it launched. Jimmy comments there often as well, and you'll be able to communicate under a real name with other fans and listeners of the show. AST has been around for ages, and is built entirely around comedy, so naturally people there are of the highest quality. Why are you still reading this!? You're really missing out if you don't go there.
If you're familiar with RSS, you're also able to subscribe to the site's content and you'll be (nearly) the first to know the moment that Jimmy, Tood, or Stef start posting content.
Thanks!
Doug

cats are over rated. go...
its overrated dumb dumb

I'll have to agree, but
I'll have to agree, but mostly about any pet. Sure, people form some pretty strong bonds with them, but I still don't really understand how it ever became "normal" to domesticate wild animals until they got cute, then start feeding them and cleaning up their crap while letting them destroy property. It just doesn't make sense to me.
This is unrelated, but, Underrated: research. People who just keep passing on rumor like it's fact, but never stopping to engage their brains for a moment have been bothering me. When corrected (because I'm curious as can be and like to know instead of guess), they usually just pass it off as "Well, that's just what I heard" to minimize their own embarrassment, as though that makes it okay.
"Why'd you give your child poisoned milk?"
"Some dude just told me it was okay and I didn't think to ask what his source was."
Generally the same folks who will tell you that they're wiser because they're older (as though the two are actually linked) will be the first to throw their hands up in the air and say "I'm old, they tricked me!" when scammed out of their life savings.
As usual, Dr Michael Shermer
As usual, Dr Michael Shermer describes it all far better than I could (baloney detection). The video is nearly 15 minutes long, but I believe everyone will benefit from it.
health care reform
The last 2 episodes of This American Life are really informative and well-researched on the health care reform debate. The latest episode is available on iTunes, other episodes are available to listen free on their website www.thisamericanlife.org It is very eye opening, giving a lot of information about why things are and how they came to be.
Todd and donating
Hi Team,
Saw Dodd, I mean, Todd last night and David Cross. Was fantastic! I behaved as an audience member should behave according to the guidlines CEE has laid out.
Also, was going to donate to the group since I gave some dollars to Dodd, sorry, I mean Todd. But your donate page said I can't.
Thanks for the podcast,

Hi Rebekah
Thanks for the kind words and I'm very glad to hear that Todd and his no-good snooty brother Dodd are also behaving themselves while on tour with David.
Donations and accounts aren't set up for the site yet, but are all still coming. It's all going toward making sure that people who donate really get something special instead of just forking over cash and trusting that Jimmy isn't spending it on fancy new gall bladders.
In the meantime, I'm always happy to hear ideas for things people would have in mind for bonuses or nice-to-haves in exchange for their donations.

conspiracy and everything else
THIS WEEK ON CONSPIRACY AND EVERYTHING ELSE, Jeremy asks Jimmy to watch a movie Todd gets a compliment, Is Steph a Canadian, and we hire a new intern.......this week on Conspiracy and everything else.......
Jimmy please watch this movie.http://www.zeitgeistmovie.com/ Aside from "how to raise you kids" it really sums up many of the points you make on the show. There are 3 main topics; religion, 911 and the federal reserve. The fact that George Carlin has many quotes is just a bonus.
Todd, sorry Dodd, or is it Todd? I am a huge fan. GSN happen to be showing the season of Last Comic Standing you appeared on (I watched it when it originally aired as well) and I stopped watching when you.....how do I say this......when you left the show. I still crack up at the thought of a bleeding arm pit due to deodorant. Please keep being exactly the way you are....prefixing and all........oh and the "eating chips during bad news" is my favorite.
Steph.....you should have been Canadian......we can all pronounce your name up here......it Stephan 'eh' right? Oh and cuz we have great health care......but that'll just make Jimmy jealous so never mind.
I love the show. I listen to 9 hours a day of podcasting and you guys are my absolute favorite. I would like to offer my services as your Canadian intern. Please let me know if theres anything I can do to help the show.
I have to go now......some is calling me a pin head and asking me to get Get off his phone.
spare rooms
Hi!
Love the Podcast. Keep up the great work, guys!
I run a dorm at an international private school on the Quebec-Vermont border. The boys are paired up but, when there are empty rooms, I always put a name on the door. This keeps the guys from bugging me about getting their own room. Here is a current picture from the fourth floor of Davis House. Every now and then a guy will ask when Marty Flipman is scheduled to arrive and I laugh...

Love the show but PLEASE disable the incoming mail sound effect!
First off, I've got to say that Comedy and Everything Else is one of my favorite podcasts. I recently tore my Achilles tendon playing soccer and have been using the show to soak up a lot of my abundant down time. You guys are hillarious and very well informed. It takes a lot of talent to talk about important and serious issues while maintaining the air of a comedy show.
I especially love the Tuedays with Moron segment! What a great way to portray a counter arguement. Its great when you can hear Moron trying to explain Jimmys side to his wife in the background!
There is one thing however, that drives me nuts. Please, PLEASE disable the incoming email sound effect on Jimmys computer or which ever computer you use to play audio clips on the show. I usually stream the show on my iPhone and everytime I hear that little ding, I instinctively reach for my phone to check my email. Please fix this, as I'm sure I'm not the only listener who is having this problem.
Jimmy, keep up the great work, your segments are awesome.
Stephane, good for you for challenging you students on the gay marraige issue. Not enough teachers and even fewer parents challenge their kids to think critically about contoversial issues rather than just swallowing and regurgitating what their parents or the media tells them. I hope that if I ever have children, their teachers will be of your outstanding caliber.
Todd, you are extremely funny and very well informed. You don't need to constantly explain the rationale behind your arguements or appologize because you don't understand something. Have some self confidence, it takes balls to admit when you don't understand something and ask questions. Also, I love your Tom
Jones....I've been saying "ahhhh, I've never kissed two ladies before" all week. You just need to get someone to isolate and loop the intro to the song so that you aren't having to talk over tom jones singing.
Thanks for a great show and if any of you ever make it up to Alaska, look me up.

Dear Jimmy and fans of C&EE,
I would like to tell you all about a great short story written by George Saunder called "Adams". If you like the way Jimmy Dore uses well thought out analogies in politics, you will love this story. I cannot give the analogy of the story away, you have to hear it yourself. Suffice to say, it is the vain of C&EE. It will make you laugh the first time you hear it, but after you figure out the meaning, it will make you fell different. It is a free to listen to via "The New Yorker: Fiction" podcast. Go to the iTunes homepage and in the search bar, type: the new yorker. It will the first podcast that comes up. Click on it and chose the free download entitled: Human Nature
While you are there, check out: "One with a Bullet", which is Tobias Wolf's short story called, "Bullet in the Brain". It's about a "Life Heckler" who gets what he deserves.
And "Knife in the Eye", which is Denis Johnson's story called "Emergency". It's about 2 guys high out of their mind working in a emergency ward. Very funny.
Enjoy!
I tried to find that show but
I tried to find that show but it is not listed. I looked throrugh all the shows listed and Human nature was not there.

Medical Insurance
Really love the show.
I just recently quit working for a company that "control's insurance cost's", aka denies coverage based on criteria created by a panel of Dr.'s.
And this is in the private insurance industry. I denied coverage for about 50 medications a day. I'm not a Dr, Pharmacist, or nurse. I'm an amatuer comedian who dropped out of community college. I had to quit, as I could no morally justify it, $13 dollars an hour is not worth your soul.I was the guy who tells your DR. "NO!"
In the insurance industry this is referred to as "Prior Authorization." Meaning, you have to prove to us (some times to ridiculous degree) that you need this medication. Or, you have to try 2 other ones that are 10 years old for at 3 months at a time before we'll pay for the one that your Dr. and you think is best. The burden of proof is on your Dr., and he and his office have to satisfy the criteria to get the medication covered. The Dr.'s do not get paid for this time, and some of them are starting to charge their patients extra for the time spent faxing, and typing letters and making phone calls. They do all this not even knowing for sure what insurance's decision will be.
Our "socialized" healthcare now , Medicare Part D, implements some of these practices as well, and sometimes (whether private or Medicare) make sense, and do save money. I can understand how someone can try generic omeprazole over NEXIUM, which is much more expensive, and if it doesn't work, then their insurance will pay for Nexium. But when someone is questioning your child's asthma medication, how often they can have their pain medication, or even a child's ADD medication. These things go on. To me, you can't argue that that's right (which is why I walked out.) This is to say nothing of the MEDICAL (vs. pharmaceutical, which is what I did) authorization's for procedures, hospital stays, surgery options, which companies product is going in your body.
People who are afraid of their health being "managed" by "panels" need to realize that is how the private insurance company works right now. A lot of people right now (including me) would like to have at least that much.
I'm a bit iffy on what I can all talk about, as I know I signed some sort of non-disclosure agreement when I started work there.
Anyway, love the show. Hope you guys come to St. Louis on the tour.
dyslexia
Dearest Dodd, I sent you a letter awhile ago telling you about finding out my son my have dyslexia and relizeing at age 37 that i had, and still have, alot of the same problems. The more i hear you talk about the way your head works the more it sound so familiar to what buonces around in my noggin.School starts for Stojack next Tuseday(1st grade) and everyone is nerves for him and i feel a guilty because i know he gets it from me.SO , I would be so very greatful if you could share a bit about your dyslexia and to hear what Stef ,as a teacher and all around fine person, has to say about learning difficulties also.Oh, by all means,Mr. Jimmy's and Mathews thoughts are welcome. much thanks, Bob Perry P.S. BIG LICKS for Bubba
Early education/Re: episode 58
Hey Jimmy, Stef, and Todd
I'm over halfway through episode 56 with Mr. Feldman and I wanted to add to the silly pre-school/kindergarten nonsense. Here's an audio clip from episode 47 my podcast The Curtis and Tara Show (sorry about the shameless self promotion, just letting you know where it came from). I think you might enjoy my experiences with growing up confused and afraid beause of a teacher or two. I hope you enjoy my suffering.
I apologize for the poor audio quality, we couldn't afford a good mic until episode 50, and we're still trying to achieve a production value as good as yours...Is that enough random praise?...I didn't think so, Episode 58 is a fantastic episode even without Todd, but I have to say, every time Todd doesn't say anything on this episode I get a bit sad. I kind of idolize him. Regardless, the three of you as a team have really opened our eyes to alot of views we never thought of before. So a big thanks for a great show from the two of us here on the east coast of Canada.
