Oh my Christ, In all

Oh my Christ,

In all sincerity, this was a phenomenal episode. Not to disrespect Jimmy or Stef but Jesse was an incredible guest and his opinion and insight was just fascinating and fresh. Thank you so much for this episode!

Re: EATING MEAT!

I just finished listening to your latest podcast with Jesse Thorn. I love meat too much, and don't like enough other foods, to ever quit eating meat, but I have an ethical issue like you seem to.

Luckily I'm married to a woman who fancies herself a farmer and I live in rural, northern Indiana. We raise our own chickens, beef and sheep (as well as a donkey and a pony) — all of our animals are VERY humanely treated. And for the record our chickens are totally free range - we've even lost one or two to traffic fatalities.

Our cattle are grass-fed and live a wonderful life up until they go to the butcher. To be honest, I still feel a little guilty about the cows, but I have no problem with eating chicken.

Most meat produced by our industrial farming system is unethical, but you can get ethically raised meat if you just put a little effort into it so don't feel guilty just find the good stuff.

And bon appetit.

Awesome episode. One thing

Awesome episode.

One thing though, I have to heartily disagree with Jesse regarding his admiration for Rush Limbaugh's ability to talk continuously for 3-hours straight.  Rush has a bevy of interns who provide him a daily talking points list that is fed to them directly from the Republican National Committee as well the various conservative "think tanks."  There is no shortage of bullshit that these people want Rush to shovel like slop to his listeners, he doesn't need to have an opinion, its given to him.  It is easy to talk for 3-hours when don't have to worry about intellectual consistency and the general veracity of your subject matter.

Also, it helps that Rush has absolutely no compunction about telling a bald-faced lie, no sense of irony . . . in short, his ability hinges on the fact that he has no shame.  Also, it helps that his brain is probably swiss cheese due to his long-standing and well-documented abuse of prescription drugs.

Jimmy, et all- Jesse Thorn is

Jimmy, et all-

Jesse Thorn is the most boring guest you have ever had on the show. His politically correct prefacing could have given Todd a run for his money. Except Todd was actually funny. This is the first show I was unable to make it through. The guy has no original opinions, only recycled crap, culled from the ether of some universe where everything sucks and is devoid of humor.

Please bring back Gaffigan, Pepitone, Agee, and the like, or I'll be forced to continue listening. But, damn it, I will not be 100% happy.

Signed,

A committed listener.....for now...

Also,

A little bit of disagreement between everybody is good for the show. You guys agreed with just about everything this guy dribbled out.

And boy oh boy Jim, let me tell you it was not funny.

As someone who knows Jesse

As someone who knows Jesse Thorn on whatever level I do (long time listener, fan of the Maximum Fun ethos, and current donor), I know that Jesse makes his living being informative, intelligent, and kind, but surprisingly not as a comedian.

The majority of his empire could likely not run if not for the large number of people like myself who feel what he does is worth donating to keep running. By that measure alone he does a much better connecting to those who enjoy his work than we seem to be doing with those who listen to this show.

Basically: a lot of people pay (sometimes a lot of) money and enjoy what Jesse Thorn does in almost any fashion he does it, while very few people pay any money and generally complain about this show now matter what it does. And both situations are fine, depending on what you define as 'fine.'

I like to believe that this show will continue to focus on the 20,000+ people who didn't complain about the episode, or the nearly one hundred people that enjoy the show so much as to help it survive. I also like to believe that you should feel free to always let you opinion be heard, even if you didn't feel comfortable leaving your real name or any contact information for someone to actually contact you (the human being). I do really appreciate the feedback.

Doug

Doug- All your points are

Doug-

All your points are well taken. I'm currently listening to Episode 78, and everything is back on track.

Jimmy and Steph are great even without a guest.

I'll tell you what, I am smiling and enjoying the thought provoking banter again, so I think I want to make a commitment to donate in the near future.

Cheers!

I liked how last week right

I liked how last week right after Jimmy went off on religion Jesse tried to explain to him that most free range chicken is just a myth and he covered his ears and wouldn’t listen. Everyone uses some kind of fiction to make themselves feel like they’re living an ethical life and being a good person.

And Jesse is fantastic. Very funny thoughtful episode.

Good shows, delivered quickly:
