Great Episode! Thanks for the Glenn Beck GOMP. I've loaded that into a sampler, so any time I want to hear it, I can just stomp on a pedal.
My wife and I just finished catching up with every hilarious / thoughtful / intense / preposterous minute of your show while on vacation in northern Saskatchewan. Your show was the perfect accessory for cooking fresh walleye over a fire, doing dishes, gardening, and working on sudoku incredibly stoned.
p.s. Jimmy, if your Sarah Silverperson defense carries on, maybe your sparring partner might be confounded by the multivalent irony of the episode in which she fucks Black God. HI-YOOOOOOOOOOO!

I liked this one. I really really did.
Silly is good! We could always use more silly, there's plenty of time for healthcare, bankers, and what-not. But Silly Rocks!
(Now, "Get off my phone!!")
Cheers!

"Sarah Silverman's humor is based on playing a comic persona. In This case, one of a clueless bigot. If you see her humor as only offensive, you're completely ignoring the subversive elements. Her jokes AREN't about the minority person but RATHER the bigot who holds such prejudicial views. It's a more contemporary way of telling jokes. You know, kind of like how Stephen Colbert pretends to believe all the stupid stuff that he says. The fact that he pretends to really believe it is what makes it so funny. And lots of people think Stephen Colbert isn't joking either. BOTH are using irony to satirize and both make us laugh because they are being buffoons. For example, Sarah says, 'Everybody blames the Jews for killing Christ, and then the Jews try to pass it off on the Romans. I'm one of the few people that believes it was the blacks.' Now, do you think that that joke is making fun of BLACKS or RACISM?"
Wonderfully put, Jimmy.
Great show, guys. I, for one, love the silliness.

There is a big difference between Sarah and Colbert. Colbert has an audience filled with the people he's making fun of. If a rich person ironically made fun of the poor and the vast majority of people who came to the show were wealthy would that be any different?

Great episode, as always.
Constructive criticism: the next time Jimmy does a hilarious bit with a prerecorded element, Todd should move away from the microphone and table so he doesn't yell and bang over the funny!

Great episode. In reference to Sarah silverman you cant judge satire by the reaction of the most stupid people in the crowd. If so satire would never be done or get off the ground.

Colbert's audience is primarily conservative, is it? I really doubt that. Anyway, your analogy is flawed in that you're asserting the target of Sarah's humor is black people. Were you listening to the point Jimmy was making? The people Sarah makes fun of are the BIGOTS, not the minorities. Her audience laughs AT the character she plays, not with it. That's the parallel with Colbert.

Don't gag, Geoff! It appears that Episode 58 hasn't been recorded yet. Todd is currently in Portland. I'll get it up here the moment it's available.
(And thanks for visiting the new site before it goes live!)
Jesus H., the Glenn Beck
Jesus H., the Glenn Beck thing was insanely funny!!
I was on the eliptical machine at the gym working out (yes working out) listening to your podcast, and I was laughing so hard that the guys next to me stared at me 3 times (I knew he was wondering WTF I was listening to). I can't listen to you anymore while I work out, I will definitely hurt myself!
Todd, I also heard the set you did for a Comedy Death Ray CD (again while I was working out - I am 5 lbs away from pre-preggo weight) the part about wanting to bite cute fat little baby legs, bathroom too close to party and pretty much the entire set made me laugh out loud hard at the gym.
Thank you!! I really needed that.

Colbert takes shots at liberals ironically, Sarah at minorities ironically but Colbert's audience is filled with liberals. That's the difference.
